Having lived and worked in Kagoshima for many years, Masami Tokuta primarily works in wood carving. Through the repeated carving and refinement of wood and layers of lacquer, he explores traces of time, memory, and life, approaching wood as a language through which to think and create. His works have been exhibited in Japan, China, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, revealing a restrained artistic vocabulary imbued with a profound sense of time.
