• Post-80s Generation’s Modernism Ⅱ

    This series of exhibitions, Post-80s Generation's Modernism, attempts to establish China's own aesthetic system of modern art through the long-term observation of art practices that happen in the moment, and then research and sort out different artists. Continuing to go more in-depth after the main frame of the first exhibition last year, Post-80s Generation's Modernism II: Eastern Calligraphy selected seven post-80s artists with “Eastern calligraphy” tendencies. Manifesting their own creative aspects, artists Chen Jiaye, Hu Saienis, Li Chao, Sun Ce, and Yi Guodong specialize in painting, while artists Lin Zhi and Zhou Yiran specialize in sculpture.

    Through this exhibition, Looking for the “Mark of China,” we wish to illustrate how enthusiasm for tradition does not only take the form of ink. In the present, due to the properties of so-called contemporary art, the trends and range of art have become even wider. This does not just apply to the cases of “New Ink” artists. We also believe that more and more people will come to realize that contemporary Chinese art bears a strong “mark of China.” This may even be able to set off a new wave in the international art scene and bring deeper nourishment and replenishment to world civilization.

    Among the artists of exhibition, Xiao Yu and Yang Maoyuan are the representatives of modern artists born in 1960s; Shi Guowei, Xiang Yang and Zhang Jiebai share the same experience of abroad art career; Chen Jiao, Li Chao, Shang Yixin, Zhong Jinpei and Zhao Yiqian represent the emerging young artists. With the exhibition theme of “Micro-life” and special exhibition space of Soka Art Center, their works concentrate on display of personal view and latest art works concerning the relationship and meaning of art and life, as well as the response to the context of “Micro-life” with new constructive approaches.
